With this monitor you have several options because both the camera and receiver can be operated either on AC power or with batteries. For example, when your baby is sleeping in the nursery, you can use the AC adapter for the camera thereby saving battery life. If you are going to be working in only one room when the baby is sleeping, you can also use an AC adapter to power your receiver. Each unit takes 6 AA alkaline or rechargeable batteries. 6 AA rechargeable batteries are included with the monitor.
